Shot types and Editing techniques  

I'm going to be researching into different editing and shot types to ensure I am showing a range of skill and imagination in my video. Using a mix of techniques creates a film what is interesting and eye catching for the audience.

Shot types

Different shot types create different effects upon the audience this is important as it helps them understand the characters and the nature of the scene. Just from a shot we can highlight emotion and create a response from the audience. For example a close up shot of an actor crying will have more impact then a mid shot as the audiences attention is upon there emotion and they feel closer to the character and can create an emotional attachment.

Close up: This shows detain and can create emotional connection for audiences.

Extreme close up: This shows extreme detail of the actor and focuses on certain features to convey an emotion.

Mid shot: Shows subject in some detail whilst still giving some context.

Wide shots: Establishes the context and setting of the subject. This gives the audience a sense of setting.

Low angle shot: Can give the impression the subject matter is powerful.

High angle shot: Can give the impression the subject matter is vulnerable.

Editing can be used to help the audience feel entranced within the scene and connect emotionally with the content. Within horror movies editing is used a lot to create tension and adrenaline. For example subliminal cut this is a cut consisting of a few frames what zip through so fast the viewer is only subliminally aware of them. The will add adrenaline to the scene due to the quick paste of the scenes and will leave the audience asking questions.
